Medigap Fears: How to Calm Your Concerns

Written By: Richard Cantu on January 25, 2010 One Comment

The words, “Medicare supplement insurance,” inspire fear in many who have not taken the time to research their options to supplement their original Medicare coverage as provided by the federal government. The technical jargon and complicated language used to describe supplemental insurance tend to make even the most determined seeker of knowledge cringe.

To end their fears concerning Medicare supplement policies, many quickly choose a plan without consideration and overzealously accept the first policy that they can get their hands on just to consider the project complete.

Fortunately, the internet has made the world of Medicare supplement plans much easier to handle as the information is just at the tips of your fingers. You can comparison shop online for plans and receive as many quotes as you feel necessary without even having to pick up your phone or leave your home.

You can find many online resources that can help you find information on Medicare and guide you through the differences in the plans, parts, and other Medicare-related issues. There is absolutely no limit to the benefits of using the internet as a toll to find the coverage that you need when your standard Medicare just isn’t enough.

Plans A-L, the 12 Medigap plans, are standardized by the federal government. This means that each uniquely lettered plan is the same no matter which private insurance company provides it. If you are confused by the price ranges for the same plan, you are probably thinking that those plans do not have the same coverage.

However, in actuality, all of the plans will be the same regardless of whether you are charged a high premium or a low one. This is true because when the government standardized the plans, they did NOT standardize their pricing. Hence, insurance companies are able to charge whatever they choose. Often, the companies just throw out a high price in hope people will pay it. Unfortunately, many do pay it.

You should not fear Medicare supplements, for you can find all the information you need and a great deal by doing your research.
