Attorneys hold a very important profession that make them vital to our day to day lives. Individuals that are well versed in the laws of the land are necessary in any society. The interpretation of the law as well as helping to protect others under the law makes them highly sought out professionals. Attorneys work very hard and depending on the type of law they practice, they may work extremely long hours. Some pay very high salaries, while others do not. But most lawyers find their profession very rewarding.
We all need attorneys and will find ourselves using one at some point in our lives. Transactional lawyers help us understand the legal jargon riddled in contracts. While a real estate attorney may help us close on a new house. Criminal and Civil lawyers are in high demand.
It takes a lot of education and preparation to become a lawyer. You must first complete your undergraduate degree. To get into a top tier school, your grades must be stellar. Students with strong analytical skills and exception vocabulary and writing talent are great candidates for Law School. It is a very competitive process and it is necessary to do your best at all times.
Once the undergraduate educated is completed, you are now ready for the next step which is the LSAT. Each Law School requires this test. It tests your aptitude for the study of law. The higher the score, the better your chances are of getting into a top school. You may either take your LSAT exam just prior to graduating or after graduation. It all depends on when you plan to enter Law School.
Once you have taken the LSAT and have received your scores you can apply to the schools of your choice. You will have to complete admissions papers detailing a lot of personal and academic information about yourself. The type of Law School you apply to as well as the location and reputation should all be taken into consideration.
When applying for schools be aware of the requirements and deadlines. Each school is different. You should apply to at least four schools. It is very difficult to get into Law School so you do not want to limit your options.
Once you get into Law School you have a year or two to determine your specialty. The first year is said to be the hardest. You will become familiar with legal terminologies and understanding the practice of various kinds of law. There is a lot of reading, writing and research involved.
After your final year you must pass the bar exam to become a lawyer. Once you have passed this very important exam you must also pass a fitness and character test. Your background will be checked. If anything comes up that will negatively reflect on becoming a lawyer then you will not be accepted to the bar. If all goes well, the bar will permit you entry and you will need to put in an application for your legal license. Then you will take an oath promising to abide by the rules of the law of the land.
