How Is Van Insurance Better Than Regular Car Insurance?

Van insurance is generally not quite the same as car insurance. The basic reason for this is that it can be safely assumed that a passenger car, unless otherwise specified, is used for the basic transportation needs of the family. A van is much more versatile and can be used to transport all kinds of things, including work equipment and hazardous materials.

Remember that there will be certain environmental issues that can cost you more when shopping for your insurance. The primary purpose of the van will determine the level of risk while the statistics associated with the primary purpose will determine whether environmental factors will create a level of risk determined to be significant. For instance, if you use the van every day to drive teenagers who live at a school for violent or emotionally disturbed youth, the insurance company will consider this a high risk factor for vandalism, especially if you park it there overnight.

Equipment that helps you and the van get the job done is often significant in purpose and price. Therefore, you want to make sure that these specialty items are also insured. Things like wheelchair lifts, drill press equipment, or even painting tools can be covered in case of theft or damage during an accident.

If you tend to use your van more often for family drives, you shouldn’t have much difficulty listing its primary use as family transportation. How you use it occasionally shouldn’t impact the premium much unless you’re transporting materials that will require special containment.

Van insurance doesn’t have to be expensive, especially if you’re insuring it as a family vehicle. Make sure you’re familiar with your driving history and the overall condition of the van. Vans that look pristine may not necessarily be in the best overall condition. Because vans of older generations are likely to flip, you need to ensure that it’s not just nice to look at but also as safe as possible to drive.

If you don’t have a clean driving record you’ll pay a little more for your van insurance. If you use your van for work and there are others who are going to need to drive the van, even if its only from time to time, you’ll need to present the insurance company with their information as well.
