How A Hostage Crisis In The Philippines Unfolded In The Palm Of My Hands Using My IPhone.
The moment I was holding my new iPhone I knew right there this was an exciting phone. Seeing its cool applications and features I just loved it. Even if there had been issues of its poor connectivity, its good feature made up for these trivial short comings.
At the same time when I obtained a iPhone insurance cover just before my expiration date ended, I had a good tip from a friend about another very useful and cool application in the iPhone that he has been using already. My thoughts were going, ‘not another one’ I the last thing I want is to spend more money right after I purchased my iPhone coverage.
Insurance for iPhone has a dead line that within only 6 months after you have purchased your iPhone can you get it covered or else you may not be able to get it insurance anymore. I was not able to get it earlier so I decided to purchase a one time annual fee to insure my phone in case of damage or loss.
For me that was it for the mean time. I don’t want to spend more money for an app no matter how good it is. But then my friend informed me that this application was actually for free but it was really good. And the idea of getting breaking news on my phone was interesting for me.
The app was Fox news that was for free in iTunes and the screen shots looked great, so I got it. But I never really saw that real value of it until Aug.23. It was around 10am here in Chicago when I got a breaking news message from the Fox app that in the Philippines some kind of hostage drama was taking place.
I was preparing for work and I wasn’t really that into it, but I thought that this might be a good time to test this new news app I installed.
So I decided to check it out in my iPhone and see what this hostage crisis was all about and I was thrown aback that it was already over and that 9 people were killed including the hostage taker. I was amazed by the clarity of the video that I saw and mesmerized that I was seeing this tragic event in my hands.
It was a clear crisp video summery of what happened and though the actual story was quite sketchy at that time, at least I was already made aware of it real time though I am hundreds of miles away from Manila.
Surely a bad thing to see in the morning, but then it was a perfect opportunity to see if indeed the app was well worth it.
When I got iPhone insurance I wanted financial protection if my iPhone was damaged and that I could rely on it. I now have seen that this Fox news app sure serves its purpose of updating me the breaking news even if I was in a some coffee shop or a remote location, no matter how gruesome it maybe.
