It is estimated from the record that in the UK, accident claims industry is worth 6 billion, and a considerable part of this is due to workplace accident claims. Now, the question emerges that is really an employer responsible for the accident, and why people claim for compensation for the accidents occurred at work?

Well, it always depends on the accident. The Health and Safety Executive, or HSE, in the UK was put in place to protect employees by setting regulations for the workplace. Such regulations include the fact that an employer must provide, free of charge, the training required for you to do your job as safely as possible. They must also provide on site First Aid, any equipment and protective clothing required and a full document detailing Health and Safety procedures. These are just the very basic regulations. Any employer failing to meet the required standards of health and safety in the workplace faces prosecution.

They should be equipped with first aid kit, preventing clothing and documents, which describes the health and safety procedures. Well, these are not all, as these are only the basic part of the regulations. If any employee failed in meeting with the standards of these regulations, he can face serious prosecutions. If an accident takes place at the work place due to the absentees of HSE requirements in any way, the employee is responsible for all that. So, these are the reasons of large number of accident claims in the UK.

Workplace accident claims happen to take place in the UK extensively because, as a majority, employees are witnessed to negate the set standards, and in case of an accident, they are liable to suffer. Since, they had not been able to attain the set goals; they have to face many more complications as well. Accidents in workplaces usually occur in a large number. When the record of the HSE statistics were put under evaluation over the years, 2008 to 2009, it displayed that around 180 individuals faced sudden demise at work due to unhealthy prospects. Around 246000 individuals faced non-fatal accidents and that too while they were at the workplace. Official figures are not assigned due to typical compensation sums in lieu of such accidents at work. This happens so because usually court settlements take place at large and do not become exposed to the general public.

And of course, not all accidents at work are the responsibility of the employer. But even in the case of an accident at work resulting in death, a compensation claim can still proceed. The family of the victim would be able to pursue a claim for compensation in the event that the employer was liable.
